How about opening up the search function a bit

Postby C0ldFart » 09 Nov 2009, 12:23

Probably not the correct place to start but here goes.

I'm a bit annoyed that it's not possible to search for "tubes" and "pedal" etc etc .... because they are to common words.

Using the search function withing google.com is OK, but a bit tidious to jump back and forth between screens.

You would have to say "reverb pedal" or "EL34 tubes", have to be a bit more specific. No search engine can read your mind although they try. Google is about as good as it gets.

Are you refering to the search engine for this forum? If so make sure you click on the "advanced search" link where you can do wildcards and really narrow down your search, I think it works very good. If after trying the advance search and you find that it still sucks then nothing I can do about it because the search engine is part of the software for this site.

I'm not able to use "jj tubes" in advanced search

The message is:

Code: Select all

The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: tubes jj.
You must specify at least one word to search for. Each word must consist of at least 3 characters and must not contain more than 14 characters excluding wildcards.
the searchfunction is discarding the double quotes, but google works nicely so - I leave at this

ps.
On the Admin controlpanel on the phpBB you probably have the common threshold set standard 5%:

if the server can take it, change Min characters to 2, and 0% common words

The advanced search will now be very good, but - if the server can take it
