Hi fendrix81,

You'll find the answer to your first question in the FAQ.

Changing the KT66s in the power section will change how the amp sounds but this is very subjective. What other people like may not sound good to you. Other members have had good experiences with Gold Lion KT66s, I myself use them. I've tried JJ KT66s, they make the amp sound very dark which not a lot of people like.

SteveD and Marshall will tell you to stick to the Shuguangs that ship with new amps. There are a number of members here that use and like the stock tubes.

I think the following is an accurate quote from Steve:

V1 is the first gain stage included in the signal path on both dynamic ranges.

V2 is an extra gain stage which is included only on the high dynamic range.

V3 is the tone stack

V4 is the phase inverter.

All preamp valves are indeed ECC83s and V1 and V2 are shielded to prevent noise issues due to their proximity to emissions from the output transformer; they are both sensitive stages and the signal level here is very susceptible to interference (which will also be amplified!).

End of Steve quote.

It may well be that the stock Marshall KT66 tubes are going to give you a sound you like as much as any other tube, people will have their own views on this, but I think I'm right in saying that Marshall don't recommend Tung Sol 'KT66s'.

ok thx..
i have a question wich i hope you can help me:
i use an ada mp1 wich you can put 2 tubes.
the v1 is the tone and i love to put the 12ax7 jj.
i put on the v2 a Tad, wich thie tube, raise me the volume (as a compressor) , wich is perfect for me because i play with my right hand very delicate, very soft..
do you know where i should to put this tube in Vm 2266 for to have the same effect? thx.

Welcome to the forum fendrix81. :Thumbs

The ADA MP-1 is not the same circuit as the 2266 so please don't expect the same affect. Try it in all positions and see if you like any of them in particular.
Still my guitar gently weeps
