I totally agree about the 425 being up there in the top 2, but would say the 1960a sounds nasty with the VM.surfnorthwest wrote: I have tried about every damm speaker Celelstion makes and about every cabinet Marshall has made. For the VM IMO I vote in this order (assuming you are sticking with Marshall cabs).
1. 1960AX/BX
2. 425A/B
3. 1960AHW/BHW
4. 1960TV
5. 1960AV/BV
6. 1960A/B
This list the ranges of cabinets Marshall offers, "A" stands for Angled cabs and "B" stands for bottom or straight cabs. I also prefer the bass projection from a straight cab over a angled cab.

But I am going to have to throw the 425 under the bus in favor of the 1960AHW cabinet, the Celestion G12H-30s gives you that vintage Marshall sound that no other cabinet I have played can. It cost only a couple hundred more and I think they look and sound the best.
Here you go. What you are looking at is the best amp combination I know of. No pedals just this amp and cabinet.... any doubters. The only thing I have ever heard that comes close is the 2466 and the 425 so I bought that too.

In all seriousness, You really gotta try cabs, and you also really gotta try many of the same ones to get familiar with their tone because of various points of "break-in" that they could be in.
The only way choosing a speaker cab is easy is if you know of an Artists tone that you like and you go out and buy the same cab, a lot of people frown upon using gear just because a celeb uses it but honestly if you like the tone and want to get something like it you basically have no other choice.
Or you could paper, rock, scissors a friend between V30s & Greenbacks! no lose situation there.
Smoother? I think in the demo clips you made with the G12M and G12C the G12M had a bit more high end treble to them.surfnorthwest wrote:The AX/BX sound a little smoother than the 425 to me but the 425 is a great match for the VM and many other amps also. I just like the checkered vintage look more than anything else with them.
