Postby surfnorthwest » 05 Dec 2009, 11:55

Is everyone able to read the forum a bit better with the current colour scheme?

I find that dark color schemes can be a little hard to look at, but this one is really easy on the eyes. Nice Job!

Thanks for the feedback. I am not finished yet and still there are some color changes to come so the theme contrasts better.

The logo also will be centered and you will see on each side of it pictures of guitar players cycle through each time the main page is loaded. I will also still have to fix the smilies as some of them had the link broke but I will fix that soon.

You will notice now when you post there are more options to customize it, there also is a button in the editor call gmp3 which allows up to link mp3s and makes a nice player in your post.

Some other changes

- This theme runs a bit different than the old one and will be faster
- The look and feel should be much cleaner now
- Graphic you upload into your posts now will not be forced into a frame they will apear in the size you uploaded them
- Larger font for us old bling guys
-Some of the mods I had installed such as chat, a wysiwyg word editor with spell check, top 3 most recent posts and some other just seemed more like gimmicks than anything really usefull, so I did not keep them. I think once this is done this will be cleaner and any bs we don't really need here will be gone.

This is taking a bit longer than I thought it would but I promise to have it done by tommorrow. In the mean time the site is operational just some things are not yet availible. Would be a good time for those of you who have not put yourself on the Vintage Modern map at the bottom of the forum to do so if you want.

It's looking pretty good now. It took a while to get used to - it's very different from every other forum, but now I really like it and if anything it's the white ones that are harder on the eyes.

It actually reminds me of looking into the back of a valve amp in a dark room... that lovely mixture of orange and blue/purple glow in blackness :-).

It will take a couple days for everyone to get used to it.

Actually I still am going to change some of the link colors that are obviously messed up, just got done with the logo now I have to re center it and get those pics of guitar players on each side to line up right, they will be cool because they will cycle with a different player everytime the page loads. I don't have to much tome left though today I have to go see Larry the Cable Guy tonight. :smoker

Still like the old white background much better.

Check out these color readability examples and decide for yourself comparing side by side...

I like the new contrast in colors but I think some of the fonts are a little too dark compared to the background. I think these need to be a little brighter. But then I am an old fart and my eyes are not what they used to be.

By the way, great job with the board.

:Cheers

P.S. check the time on the server as it appears to be off by about 30 minutes (per my posting time) even after taking timezones into account.

Just a little bug report... when clicking on "View your posts" in the upper right corner I get error messages:

Thanks for the comments guys, like anything this board will always be a work in progress, just please understand that I am not Microsoft nor a computer programmer. I just do the best I can with what I know.

Tony I see this error and I am looking into it to get that fixed, thanks. There are so many things that can go wrong when you mess with these boards, if I only have the one thing so far then that is great.

I need to live with this contrast for a bit as to me it looks good, but I will also experiement a bit more in the future so it may still change some more. As far as the Header goes well again I am no professional Graphic designer I just mess in Paint Shop Pro, if one of you would like to try your hand on a better logo then have at it, just make sure the width is 1024pix and it is in .gif format.
