I use only tortex '50s... But then I pick also with my nails not only with a pick (which can hurt pretty badly after 3 hours of playing. I usually have some blood under the nail then)

oh and almost forget... I change them every 10 hours of playing as I wear them badly really fast... Just like strings which I change every 6 hours of giging. Else they slam!

I gig just about every weekend, and I have custom picks made by Clayton, so I go through them rather quickly. I have this terrible habit of tossing them into "well-endowed" females' exposed cleavage. :dunno

Seriously though, if you're looking for custom picks, check out Clayton - great service and easy to design/order using their online system - www.steveclayton.com

I'm in exactly the same situation. I hate when the pick starts to be just a little worn at the tip and change very often, usually after two days. And strings... now I use Elixir just to be able to play without them completely dying after just one day.

I play a lot though.

I may be way too late to offer help but you can get Dunlop Tortex Sharps from the Jim Dunlop website. I use the Sharp 1.14mm (purple ish) you can get them in 1.35mm (black) and 1.5mm (white). In the UK the best place to go is a website called stringdirect.co.uk it's great for accessories. The more picks you buy the less they cost individually, 20 of them cost £8!

Hope this helps

Thanks, but that stringdirect.co.uk site was really strange! Just a bunch of links leading nowhere... seems it's just a search portal.

I use Dunlop Jazztone 205's. They're nice and thick with a sharp little point and made out of soft material that seems to glide over the strings perfectly for me.

Edit: To answer the question, I stop using one when I can't read the print on the pick anymore. The label seems to fade at about the same rate as the tip.

I started using the red dunlop jazz III about a year ago. I will usually lose them before I need to replace it. They last a very long time. Only down side is that now if I pick up a normal sized pick it feels like a paddle in my hand. But I have no intensions of switching since these picks are grrreat.
