Mg cdr 100 solid state troubleshootin. Maybe Steve can help?

Postby Herbvis » 09 Nov 2010, 08:29

My buddys got a mgcdr100 amp that suddenly started sounding awful (Farty, flubby, undesirable distortion tone).
Speaker is fine and used known good cable for testing. Amp is ten or more years old and nothing appears fried.

Could this be a symptom of some of the electrolytic caps crapping out due to age? Transformer?

Thanks!

Hi Guys

Do you mean MG15CDR?

If so, then the problem is likely the output chip TDA2050. You can also check voltages inside the amp with no speaker connected. make sure both supply rails are intact.

Like most circuits based on the manufacturer's app notes, this one does not have a leak resistor from the TDA output to ground but it should Add a 1k. This will stabilize the output for testing without a load. Until all no-load tests/checks pass, do not connect a speaker.

Have fun
