Vernet FLV45

Postby bluesbrother » 21 Dec 2008, 09:39

At last my new amp!!!
It is built in the same size and colour as the vintage modern
It is a handwired JTM45 with a tubebuffered FX-loop (with send and return mix controls) and
a mastervolume PPMIV.3x 12ax7 1xgz34 2xKT66 >>> everything is the same as a original.
This is very different from a reissue marshall JTM 45 which has other powertubes(5881 i believe)

Both are great amps. The rectifier gives so much sag that even for a reverb junkie like me it already
sounds very bluesy. I think the flv45 has nicer clean/semi clean sounds, For rock sounds i prefer the
high range of the vm over the flv45+overdrive pedal. Output is 30watt rms and the vm 37 RMS so that is
about the same. Both are great amps and special for me.....
I bought this amp for a specific bluesdrive which this amp delivers in spades......

Enough talk: you want pictures off course...
:D Image

everything is dark purple but this is hard to shoot in a dark room...
It looks so hot ... i smile whole day when i look at it... a major G.A.S. attack is stilled

Thanks,
It sounds amazing but so is the vintage modern.
They have alot in common and the VM is definately a spring off of a JTM.

The rectifier and probably other things make the notes on a vibrato really sing.
For blues i gues this is the ultimate amp .The VM is more loose and has more crunch
with a fuzzy topend that sounds amazing.
I know most people buy a marshall and a fender amp to have different flavours but the way
these amps work really stole my heart....I really understand why this is JIM MARSHALL favourite amp.
I wish everybody a happy christmas :D

is your VM black? Im starting to find that I dont linke the VM so much for blues and I use my bassman for blues now. VM is great tho for Zep and Jimi.

My Vm is dark purple and the Vernet is also exactly the same dark purple.
Hard to make a picture of it at night.......
A JTM is based on the circuit of a bassman,
For blues on the VM i use a EHX holier grail reverb and the difference is like night and day.
On low range it becomes very fenderish this way with a strat.
With high range and a les paul and the volume on the guitar around 3 i get a bb king kinda sound.
The balance between the bass/mid and highs with a KT66 powertube is just perfect i simply would
not want anything else...  thats why i have 2 now

The JTM is based off the bassman so they say but my 65 Bassman sounds nothing like a JTM or a VM. You can easily hear the difference in tone. I just feel for clean blues the VM just doesnt do it. I dont understand how you are getting a BB sound in the high dynamic. Anything I get in the high dynamic is way to much gain, like hard rock and 80s metal. Even if I roll back the volume pot on the guitar it doesnt get BB King clean, it just loses its oomph. What are your exact settings on the amp? I love the VM in low range cranked with just a little bit of push from an OD pedal for that marshal growl and zep tones and then fuzz face for hendrix.

Hi,
I am talking about the circuit not the sound.Jim marshall attached his own flavour to it.
It was original a amp for basplayers but guitarist found out it sounded great on electric
guitar also. That is why the amp is so bas heavy......i have the bas on zero.

I have the same les paul and pickups .The pickups have a very high and bright topend which is
good for a bb sound.I have body on 4 and detail on 5.To make it sing you definately need a good
reverb.I set my reverb : spring reverb, long trail.
With volumeguitar on 3 in high range i get a light crunch with very little drive. Not so clean as bb gets it
on a fender twin but i simply like to have a very light crunch to the sound. If you want totally clean on
high volume get a fender twin.
On you tube gary moore plays "thrill is gone " together with BB
gary plays a les paul and a JTM. Sounds fucking great, but it could have been done on a VM aswell.....
Good luck.
