No doubt my next amp....

Postby Slash1337 » 01 Nov 2007, 21:08

I was seriously thinking about buying a Splawn before I met the VM. The VM appealed to me in every way. And it was also much more available. But after graduation... this will be my next amp no doubt. See if my rents will go halfers on it for my grad present...

Splawn Quick Rod... Just love the tone.

And in combo with the VM...OMG!

If you are going to move into the realm of boutique amps then you have to give Diezel consideration. There just isn't a amp that sounds as good as the Diezel Einstien IMO, of course they are about $4000.

Check the sound clips out here

I tried the extacy... mmm loved it. But Im not dishing out that much for an amp...
I've been e-mailing scott back and forth for the past 6 months about getting it before etc...
And he just seems like a really cool guy. I'm even gonn ask if I can get the head the same way the VM is out. Purple tolex, but different light. Maybe a baby blue colour or something etc.

If I get another amp it will be another 2466. I really can't think of another amp I'd even consider, and with two I could have one set up for clean & one dirty....AWESOME!

Yeah I know. But I want the mixture of the EL34 w/ V30's
And the KT66 w/ Greenies.

Always been my dream set up for my tone. VM for clean/dirty/lead
And the Splawn for most of my lead.
I'll be able to think about it as I have only another 6 months of school.

I'm not talking of the XTC, i'm talking of the Shiva. I also tried out the xtc be4 i bought the shiva, and it
it was to different monsters. The shiva sounded mutch more like a hot rodded marshall with some extra balls.
I'm saying this cause the splawn clip you posted reminded me of the Shiva in some ways.
If I get another amp it will be another 2466. I really can't think of another amp I'd even consider
Agree, if i would have another amp it would be a vox or a fender twin.

Yeah, but still. The bogners are so much... where as the splawn amps are under 2000. And it will be cheaper list price cause the candian dollar is at a dollar seven. Mmmmm.

My favorite amp:

I really like the VM too, but the Quickrod just has that little something extra. Honestly though, they're different amp with different features and I approach them differently (not to mention that I haven't used the VM all that much yet). I like having two different amps that are in the same basic family. If you do get the Splawn, one thing you'll notice is that where the VM is at a reasonable volume at 9:00, the Quickrod will make you go deaf at the same spot on the master. At rehearsals my bandmates often ask me to turn down to 8:30 or so.

Hey, I've owned both a Splawn QuickRod (NEW Version), and a Bogner Ecstacy, and I wouldn't trade either back for my VM.

To me the bottom line is that I could get bored after 15 minutes of playing through either my Bogner or Splawn, but I can plug into a good Marshall, and literally get lost in playing for hours. It's almost like the boutique amps are just too sterile for me.

If your gassing for a good boutique amp, it's probably good to get it out of the way, and buy one, just to get it out of your system! I'm glad I did, now I just G.A.S. for more Marshalls!

Anyway, Marshall started out as a boutique maker too!

yeah, for me I would do the VM for the grit and either a Dr.Z MAZ or Vintage Fender DR for cleans...that would be perfect IMO...now I just have to get the wife on board and we'll be all set.

I've had some great moments with the VM. But I'm longing for more depth and gain in the high range. My other amps, 1974 JMP, JCM 800 4104 and DSL 100 get me to other ground in and around the VM, but having played through a Bogner Uberschall last week, yikes, it was fun. However, the VM is so musical. But I'm always wanting to reach for more and when I do, the VM is too brittle for me. And look at me, complaining. Well, that's the nature of the beast.

I wish I liked the Splawns, his shop is less than an hour from my house. He's got a funky little place tucked in a corner of a nice little town called Dallas, NC. His amps do sound excellent, but too high gain and crunchy for me. The VM has all the gain and more that I'll ever need.
