DSL good or bad

Postby Mats A » 12 Feb 2012, 07:48

What is it about the DSL that many people don´t seem to like it. Except for the Marshall Forum then. I sometimes like it and sometimes not.

I like the dsl but,one thing I had to learn is you have to spend time with it.The eq is very active and it just plays a big part.I run mine through V30s and by itself it can sound harsh sometimes. If I play along with a cd it will set right in the mix and you cant hear the harshness. It will do alot of tones but doesn't nail one 100%.Thats why they call it the working mans amp because it does alot of different things.Hope this helps.

Never owned one but I've played DSL's at various points and I've always liked them. As LP/Marshall said, does a lot of tones just doesn't really nail anything but it's very Marshall and a ton of versatility. I don't think it's the be all end all of Marshall amps, but it's great bang for the buck and you can definitely never go wrong with one.

I used a DSL for years until the VM came along. For me it was a great amp that produced a great sound. I would happily use one again and would recommend any prospective amp buyer try one.

Well there is something in the tone of it that i don´t like. It sounds kind of papery and and a bit harsh in the distortion. Lacks a bit of attack.

Thats why we all have different tastes ... I kind of agree though. It does not have the JCM800 punch but then again ... get an 800 if thats what you are looking for.

I have 2, and they are awesome amps. Especially for the money, versatility, etc. Play them through V30's, and you will love it.
Many Marshall's, and I want more.

If you are running 75's with the DSL dump them. Go with the V30's or Greenbacks. This will be a huge improvement.

Great amp have had mine for like 5 years. I play it through V30s now. The clean channel is great IMO and I like the lead channel with the Deep switch "in" and set to "lead 2" with the gain a little over half way up.
