New Guitar Day - Meet Ruby!!!

Postby Bluesburst » 22 Aug 2009, 05:01

Hi All,

Today is an amazing day for me, my first Gibson Historic Les Paul and what a beauty she is!!!

She's a 2009 build 56 reissue with a twist, rather than the traditional Goldtop finish, a Candy Apple Red adorns the body and if that wasn't enough, transparent red dot markers have been applied rather than black. As the light hits the neck, it looks like a row of glistening Rubys, thus her name.

Now I truly understand the magic of the Les Paul reissues and I feel, a rather fitting tribute to our recently departed musical mentor, Les Paul. A red-top for a red-top!!! The sound is full and creamy, I've been hankering for P-90's and the wait was truly worth it.

The neck is big, very big and provides a great handle for pumping out some red hot blues. In all my searching around the web, I've not seen an R6 like it, I think I have both a good one and a rare one.

The P90's are a great through the VM, I can see many happy hours together. :love

I'll let the pictures tell the story...

Congrats! That is one beautiful guitar!
I saw one once in tobacco sunburst but wasn't in a position to buy it, if I see one again it will be mine. Never seen the red though. Normally not a fan of that color but it looks very good on that guitar.

Congrats,
P90 Rules!!!
I had a vintage v100gt with P90 and a very very big neck and still regret selling it.
(you can see that one in my avatar)
In europe the 1956 reissue goldtop with P90 is very expensive.
If i had to spend that kind of money on a guitar it would be a 1956 reissue goldtop.
Because of the color yours is very unique :love

absolutely fantastic guitar!!
feel like binning my plain old gold 56' resissue!! lol :Thumbs

also it took me a while to dial in THE TONE with my 5 historic,

try the master on full with the mid boost in and the t,m,b dimed, and the presence half up.
this would usually be really muddy with humbuckers but its perfect with my P-90s

Thanks Guys

To say I'm happy would be a massive understatement...

Lukemc, your settings are actually very close to what I have my VM set to anyway. My bass and mids are wound back a little and do the final shaping via the detail and body control to suit individual guitars.

I hear you, I had been longing for something with P90's for a very long time. I was hoping Gibson would do a non-custom shop P90 Les Paul but this opportunity came up and I'm so glad it worked out.

The VM and P90's are a killer combo. They pull out a "smooth-growl" that none of my humbucker equipped guitars can :yea
