Can anyone advise me on some good pups for my Les paul Custom 73' nuff sed...

The only other musician in my family is my Uncle who lives in Wisconsin and has been a regional star for many years playing Polka. Bastard even has a couple of CDs out.

Bare Knuckle pick-ups should be easy enough for you to get your hands on. I bet they have something that would sound great in your guitar.

Funny you should mention Bare Knuckles.

I came across this video and was knocked out. They're the Nail Bomb set, high output, modern voiced with AlNico V magnets. Everything I would think I would not want in a pickup. I'm seriously thinking about getting a set. Hopefully once I install them I'll also play as well as this guy!

I still think the Classic 57s are the perfect pickup on the Les Paul but I am also very impressed with BareKnuckle pickups. While I would install them on my Les Paul I won't because I love what my 57s sound like. I did put a WarPig in my V and that pickup is insane. They are not cheap but they are some of the best on the market for sure.

I use Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates in my Les Paul and they have a very good sound, this is the pickup Billy Gibbons uses in his also.

I have the '57 Classic, Seymour Duncan Seth Lover, and Lollar Imperial High Wind and like them all. Each one of them is based on the PAF sound and they are all slightly different. All three are very clear sounding. The 57 has a more neutral EQ response than the other. The Seth lover has the most mids and also the most volume. The Lollar is like a cross between the two.

If I had it to do over again, I would have just bit the bullet and bought some Bare Knuckles. Probably would have saved me some time but my soldering skills are much better now.

I ended up installing an RS re-wire kit and a Dirty Fingers in the bridge and I've been happy ever since. I may talk myself into trying a Bare Knuckle Warpig in my Les Paul. The Dirty Fingers could be put to use in my Carvin CT4M which sounded like warm mud last time I took it to band rehearsal.

This may seem like a dumb question but since we're on the subject.

I've shied away from high output pickups since my metal days (when I put EMGs in everything). My pickups have been getting gradually less output ever since. But I was thinking about it and I almost always prefer my tone with some sort of clean boost on. I set the boost pretty high. Wouldn't I be getting a similar effect if I just put some high output pickups in my guitar and ditch the boost?

Well guys, I've just bought myself a B.C.Rich Beast on Ebay for £200.00 and it has a set of Bareknuckle Nailbomb pickups in it, and as a set of Nailbombs are £210.00 I think that is a bargain. I'll be putting the pups in my Les Paul methinks...

Very nice. Let me know what you think of the Nailbombs. I'm curious.

well that might be more flexable that way tho. ya can vary the boost as needed. the pickups you'd be stuck with wotever theyre pushin out!! and rolling down the vol mite not give ya the range ya needed with high output pickups.

but on the other hand if yer always boosting then you might want to consider the following. to simplify lets say low o/p p-ups with a boost roughly compares to high o/p without a boost. so it depends whether the boost will colour the tone. whether you like that colouration. will the higher o/p pickups be more transparent etc etc.
