Marshall 9200

Postby Richard_H » 24 Jan 2012, 14:46

Hello, this might sound really stupid, but I have a 9200 poweramp (the one with 5881 tubes/valves) , and recently, when I turn the volume & presence controls, I hear a crackle kind of sound, so I figured that them tubes need a'changin! (happens on both sides, coincidence huh?)

A crackle when I turn the controls indicate that the powertubes are worn out right? I'm not sure if I have to replace the powertubes or the preamp/driver-tubes?

Any help?

Regards
Richard

Could it be the pots?

I think the pots also, that model could be 20 years old already and pots do get scratchy over time and need to be replaced or serviced.

Thanks a lot guys! I hadn't thought about that! I guess the safest bet is to take it to an amp repairman guy of some sorts. (I'm getting an AFD, so away goes the 9200&JMP1)
