Gig with JMD.

Love how this thread evolved.

Up until about 40-45 we're just getting older, after that we start to age.
I started playing about 7-8 years ago and am 54 now, no band experience and minimal experience with other musicians. I can't imagine doing the bar gig thing at this age, but playing with a bunch of friends would be a blast.

that's pretty funny, we've got 4 in the 50ish crowd and another 3 in the mid 40s crowd. I think we've just nailed the JMD demographic. The amp for the "been there done that" musician.

Love it and so true...... Hey Marshall advertising guys, thats a great slogan for the JMD and you have the demographics right here. Loads of experienced musicians in the mid-40's to 50's who have money and real jobs and can afford almost any amp they want buy just buying it. Yet we all own the JMD and play the JMD even though many of us own other amps also.....

I'm 47 and I'm playing with the same group of guys that I played with back in the 80's as well! It's a great time!

The JMD is perfect for us, a cover band with multiple tones needed. I bought a used/damaged JMD 100 watt combo. The cabinet was so bad I put the head in a Legacy II cab but there were heat issues with that. So I built a cabinet just for the head! I know have an upside down 100 watt head that I run into the Legacy II cab.

I've dialed up my favorite 4 tones, I have a pedalboard with a couple of other littler tasty things and I'm thrilled!

I had to become a member today after reading this thread. I am 49 .be 50 in a few months . Just bought a 50 watt JMD for gigging . At one time I had a Bogner Xtc and a Fuchs tripple drive supreme with two 2x12 Mojave cabs loaded with v30's and G12H30's With a A,B,Y switch and an oversized pedal board. As time went on I realized this was just too much for gigging. When I was young I'didn't mind packing and setting up all this gear .But now I'm not into it. The audience doesn't notice or give a rats ass anyhow .

The next issue is playing at 50. I spent a year and a half getting this band off the ground ( SmashingAlice.com ) and went through 7 different band members in that time trying to find a bunch of guys who . 1 have day jobs ,2 been there done that .3 are easy to get along with . Our current lineup is age 25 ,29,40 45 and 49 . This has realy made the band what it is .The combination of old experience and fresh new ideas and song approaches from the younger generation has worked great.

I played full time for a living in the 80's and had no desire to play a lot ever again and haven't been on a stage in 20 years until I started this band. ( SmashingAlice.com ) .like an earlier poster said . This is the best time to play music. My career has peeked ,Kids are gone,House is payed for ,can afford any gear I want.What better time. We also only play quality gigs once or twice a month and I'm loving playing music more now than I ever have .

I was thinking I was the only old timer thinking this way so its very refreshing to see you guys are out there.

Hey Bonananza. As another prior Bogner XTC owner who owns a JMD, I was wondering how you felt about the XTC. I think they truly are amazing amps. My only beef with the amp was that I kept f'ing with it. I would turn around to the amp about once every 5 minutes to tweak, never quite finding the sound I wanted. I finally figured out that the sound I wanted was Marshall, and I wasn't gonna get it with the XTC! I was even a little worried that I'd have the same tweakers syndrome with the JMD, since it has so many possibilities. I still find like every Marsahll I've had, I can set it for one sound, and I' ll just play without feeling that something is missing.

Ah yes, the epiphany at the end of a tone quest. In the mid to late 90's I was playing a Marshall 6100 with a 1960 Classic cab with greenbacks. There was this shrillness that I could never dial out so I decided to search for another amp. Over the next few years I went though a Gibson Goldtone, Line 6 Pod XT with monitors, Two Rock Custom Reverb (which I still have), Fender Supersonic and a Line 6 Spider Valve. Then one day I was at GC and sat down at a Marshall JVM410H. Wow, that was it. That was the tone I had been searching for. I saved up for a while and bought the JVM and a Marshall 1936 2x12 (which I also still have). Then I plugged in a Les Paul and everything clicked. I figured out that the shrillness that I was trying to dial out of my 6100 ten years before was probably the Parker Fly that I was so into. So, had I just tried a Les Paul with my 6100 I probably wouldn't have wasted so much time and money going in a big circle ending up back where I started, with a Marshall.

I love the JVM but I have always wished I could tweak one channel to do two slightly different tones, not just change the mode. That is why I wanted to try the JMD. The more time I spend with the JMD, the closer I am getting to my perfect live setup. Plus having the 501 combo makes setup and tear down that much faster. We mic everything so I don't need a huge rig.

I guess I will throw my hat in the ring, I'm 48 and a product of late 70's and 80's, I'm a owner of a JMD 50h, MA100h and some Blackstar products. I find I play more now then I did when I was in Bands. I still get the urge to play live again, but happy just playing in my own studio. Love my JMD! Still looking to try a VM though!

Just glad to see our generation still rockin!

My experience was very similar .I liked the idea of having the plexi channel too but was never happy with the dryness of it so never ended up using it. The Bogner in the end I felt was maybe a little too refined and not enough bark and rawness .I spent many hours tweeking it too and was never quite happy. I felt like something was missing . Like most people I've been around the patch with 100"s of boutique and off the shelf amps only to realize Marshall is my sound .

Hey, finally got around to checking your vid. That was a good sounding setup. I think your quote here is exactly what I tell people about the
boutique amps I've owned. (Bogner, SLpawn) That they seem over engineered. Having the rawness of a Marshall is a big part of the MOJO I've found.
A Marshall feels like it's an extension of your body, where an amp like a Bogner feels a little distant!
