How good are the effects? I usually use the delay/chorus/reverb in my G Major (#27) w/ or w/o compression.

The delay, reverb, and noise gate are as good as any pedal. Chorus is very good although I prefer digitechs multi-chorus. Tremelo is also very good. I would rate the phase and flange as average. You can run the verb and delay with only one of the four other effects, not an issue to me. You have a loop also.

In short the built in effects are very usable and a huge bonus for JMD1 owners.

I'll need to demo this amp soon. I didn't demo my VM (which is typically a bad idea) but it turned out to be a good purchase so far.

If you demo it take a piece of paper with you with a few settings, there is a lot to know about the amp to get a fair demo out of it. Why not buy from a retailer that allows you to try the gear for 30 days, that would be better then a 15 minute spin in a music store.

I would stay away from buying it on Ebay unless its a proven seller and I am unsure how Marshalls warranty is but most companies will not warrant any item if purchased on Ebay even if it is brand new since your the second purchaser. Also getting from MF is OK but understand there are others out there like AMS who will do a payment plan without additional credit charges and will double the warranty period and they have a price guarantee for all items. I just purchased a Hardwire tuner pedal for 79.00 and the day I got it they reduced the price so I got the difference refunded to the amount still owed.

I only use delay, chorus and reverb and find the effects to be great quality and very tweakable. With the JMD they are all built in and there is no need for any pedals which is great. Make sure you try the noise gate on the JMD it is top notch and again, if you can, engage the effects loop with the level around half way it will make some settings sound even better.

Noise5150,

Do you need to put a jumper cable between the effect send and return for this to work? I do this with my JSS combo to get that boost for solos.

Thanks,
Mike

I dont use a jumper cable I just make sure the effects loop button is on and then turn the knob in the back about half way up. I dont know why, but it makes everything sound even better.

Thats what caused my amp and many others to stop switching channels properly. I stopped doing this and the amp switches with no issues now

Which mode does it do that in? I have not had that problem. And has anyone determined why engaging the effects loop is causing that to happen?

Honestly I doubt there is a solid correlation between the effects loop thing and the switching problem. They are just different things I believe. As time goes on the cause of the switching problem will become known.

Beck-ola,

Your last line cracks me up, it sounds like something Yoda or Obi-Wan would say. "These are not the droids you are looking for..." "As time goes by, the cause of the switching problem will become known"

Ha! That made my day. Now that you've set it in that context, I guess it does have a prescient quality.

Did you see the movie "Being There", with Peter Sellers? It sounds like something Chance Gardener would have said. "Yes, Mr. President, there will be growth in the garden".
