boost switch tonemaster

Postby bluesbrother » 22 Aug 2008, 09:52

I got my treblebooster mullard oc44(dallas rangemaster treblebooster clone).
Kissfanps you were right: this thing excels at low range.
Best blues sound i ever got :D .It boost with a very mild fuzzlike topend.
This is i always wanted out of fuzz pedals but never got it. It makes your amp also
more livier. This sounds more natural than all the OD/DIS/FUZZ pedals i have had!!!!!
It reacts incredable on the volume on the guitar.
But in all honesty i do not like it on high range at all!!!My clean booster (seymour
duncan pickupbooster) sounds much better for me.
For some reason most guitar stores do not sell this and most manufactores do not
make it ....i do not understand this because this is a very good pedal for blues :?:

glad to here you like it. with the vm on low range the germanium really works!!!! i dont get it.

it doesnt sound good on high because the tubes are already being pushed so much that they have nowhere else to go, at least thats what i think.

its really hard to boost an already overly saturated preamp IMO.

I think it is more gain +gain= mud
Because with my clean boost i can push high range further into overdrive.
I know understand why eric clapton used a treblebooster.>>its briljant.
I will always keep experimenting but i realize that a marshall amp sounds best
with a powerful boost( and a subtle flavour to your taste.)

In the future i hope to get my first fender amp.
Do you happen to know what pedal goes best with a fender for blues or is this not necessary?
From what i red most people use a overdrive ala TS808 for compression and mids and less bass?
I do not know which amp he plays but i really like the sound of Walter Trout.
Thanks,
Bluesbrother.

Walter Trout has been using Mesa Boogie's for many years (the Mark series). He doesn't use any pedals but his tone sounds very much like a Tube Screamer type to me. I highly recommend either the Maxon OD808 or one of the Keeley mod plus versions (once modded the TS808 & TS9 are exactly the same internally so save some $$ and get the TS9) .
I've tried way too many OD pedals with my Twin & I actually prefer not to use one. I do use an Xotic RC booster pedal to push the preamp, cut some of the highs and add a bit of drive (the RC doesn't give you much). I can't recommend that pedal enough for any Fender amp (works pretty good with the VM also  ).

Thanks,
very interesting
I always assumed he played fender amps but wondered how he got this deep tone.
I thought it was a tubescreamer but a mesa without pedals is the last i would have
thought of.One is never too old to learn....
