Its not my amp or clip, but I have the same specs in my amp. There is a giant thread on the metro forum of people(including me) modding and tweaking our own amps trying to nail the afd tone(sucessfully too imo). So the work is not being done at a shop, just the members of the forum working on our own amps.Acidrain1993 wrote:where did you get this mod done? I wonder if it can be done on an SL-X...?
I know the gut that did the recording put it together pretty quickly and he claims he suck at making recordings so that may have something to do with the harshness you are hearing. Also, the mod we are doing on the metro forum has an added gain pot for the extra gain stage. So with the two gain controls you are able to control the amount of gain very well. My point being that it can be turned down to allow more of the natural guitar tone through if desired And we are always tweaking and improving!wildone wrote:Man that is way to harsh for me. Sounds like a cheap distortion box through a plexi with EMGs. I only say this because the over the top gain looses note definition and takes away from the guitar.

No secrets kept by me. I can send you a copy of the layout if you like.Acidrain1993 wrote:Its not my amp or clip, but I have the same specs in my amp. Is a slx in the jcm 900 series? I know that the mod can really only be authentically done in a superlead/plexi/2203 aka jcm 800 due to the circuitry being very similar.
I think i would be possible with the SL-X because, yes, it is in the 900 series, however this is the one without diode clipping. And apparently, many people say the preamp is basically a factory modded JCM 800. Simply more gain. I think it's possible to do the mod you have on this preamp, although I know you will never give out schematics. :(
That was what I was thinking too... Like Wildone said, it's a bit too harshy, and I also think it's due to the preamp distortion. Of course, it's personal, and I can be wrong...it's soo damn difficult to judge an internet clip...IMOSlashwannabe1 wrote:Personally think theres a little too much pre amp distortion going on and not enough power amp distortion to be authentic to the appetite tone, but it certianly has some of the dyanamics.
a Strat and Hallow bodied Gibson into a Fender Bassman= Izzys tone. Not much to talk about lol.thunderkyss wrote:I wonder how Izzy's set-up contributed to the AFD tone.
Nobody talks about Izzy.
