The info he stated is from almost any DAW and interface. Every DAW works ALMOST the same. Just some people prefer others and some work to their needs better. Pro Tools is a popular one and will find it in almost every studio. I record with Cakewalk at home but use Protools to mix/master.

It would be a common work flow. I have used Acid, Cool Edit, Cakewalk, Cubase and never found any big differences in their work flow.
It shouldn't be any. Quality of your mix isn't depending of DAW.
Your hardware is most important (and you, of course). Everything starts with a raw tracks.
If you don't record it well, don't expect it will improve in mix.

I have heard many good things about Reaper. Go for it! It supports MIDI too which can be very usefull,
(I'm thinking about drum tracks in the first raw)
You can always use plugins if you need better FX chain.
I wish I was listening better when they told me about importance of monitoring.
So get yourself good audio interface, good microphone and nice studio monitors.

I assume you already have computer or Mac.
Prepare yourself that learning curve is unpredictable and this could be very frustrating
Take your time , all your questions are already answered, just search right forums.

I advise checking out gearslutz.com to start with on questions and just search the forum for anything. I started out there by just reading and learned enough from this forum/gearslutz/peope to get me on my own feet.
