New AFD 100

Postby sheguitarplayer » 13 Feb 2011, 15:05

Mine arrived on Monday. Im really pleased with it. Fantastic sound.
I didnt expect much from the 34 mode, but it really is killer, the perfect Marshall crunch/drive sound, and at full gain a great lead sound. Around 7-8 on the gain gives a perfect blend of 800 grind (34 mode) and perfect huge stadium rock (AFD mode). Im really stoked with this amp.
Looking to replace preamp valve 1 as I think its a little microphonic and tends to squeal a bit. Its a Marshall branded ECC83, like all the others, but has red lettering as opposed to white on all the others. Anyone got any ideas on a direct replacement, close to the original if possible?

Congrats on the amp, nice to see them getting out into circulation now. We are still waiting for the first ones here in the US. The preamp tube labeled marshall could either be a JJ or it could be a Shuguang, hard to say. Glad you like it, I think it will be one of those amps that you will grow very attached to.

Lucky you, sheguitardude. Good to hear from you. You're going to have a lot of fun with that one. I know I would. :dance

Pretty sure that the red labeled preamp tube is a JJ screened for low noise.

Thanks guys. Put in a new jj tube. Sings like a baby now. What an incredible sounding amp. Im absolutely loving it.
The power scaling works very well. Im using it about 12 o clock, with the master at about 2 o clock. Perfect rehearsal volume and it sounds as if it is running at full throttle.
Looking for a nice reverb pedal to put in the fx loop to kick in for solos, then Im set for full on stadium rock lol.

Malekko Chicklet Reverb seems to be one of the best on the market now at a good price point.

+1 on the Chicklet...

I don't know if it is the best as I haven't tried that many... but for a subtle revert or rockabilly thingie it rocks for sure... for a relly reasonable price.
Only wish it could be available in a more... well... unquestionable color :whatever

Just working out... that's just me... :numchucks

I think I'll keep the color though... I got a few nice pedals on my board... but the Chicklet is the one people asks about...
