Gibson Classic 57s

Postby slowpokerhino » 02 Jan 2009, 21:07

Hey Surf, just put a set in my new LP & you are absolutely justified in your praises of these pickups. MUCH better than the stock Burstbuckers in every way & more articulate & clear than the Sheptones. I also added treble bleed kits to my volume knobs & as soon as I replace the tone knobs for some that actually work I think I'll have the perfect Les Paul. At least pefect for me. Thank you.

Glad you like them, they really sound great with the VM that is for sure. I cannot wait to get my hands on that new ES359 coming with the 57s, should be great. Going to have to post us some clips sometime of your LP with those.

BTW what the heck is that picture of in your Avatar?

 That picture was posted here quite awhile ago and I "borrowed" it. It's 2 KT66s in a VM combo. I'm used to seeing the 4 mounted upright in my head but I like the picture so...

I can fully understand your excitement, that should be one hell of a guitar!

I love those classic 57's too, used to have a set in my epi lp custom and man did it make a difference. I actually prefer my REAL 57 PAF's though, but then, who wouldnt?

Its really not as big as it looks, much smaller body width wise than a 335, just deeper. But about those 57 classics, once I find myself a nice gold top thats probably what I'm gonna toss in that, unless of course its a P90 guitar.

Burstbucker 1 & 2. Go with the 57s, MUCH better pickup IMO.

I have to agree with that. The burstbuckers are nice, but I think the 57's are way more responsive, and tend to open up more.

Our other guitarist still has his 1 & 2 in his LP. He played mine for a couple songs New Year's Eve and asked me what pickups I had in there, he will be getting some soon.

I never played played the 57 classics.
But i did read alot of reviews from people who replaced them with
Bare knuckle mules. They are so thrilled that they put bare knuckle
pickups in all there guitars.I thought maybe it is a hype but so many many
people give 10's to them .I replace the burstbuckers pros in my les paul
with them and it really blew my mind.Rumour goes gary moore also got
them in his guitar.Personally i really think they are with wolvetone the best
available pickups on the market. The sound quality is head and shoulders
above gibson pickups . probably due to be completely handwound. On there
site they give alot of technical information.I do not want to spoil the fun it is
just my experiences............

I think that is a awesome guitar to blues with!!!!

I looked at the mules. They're pretty hard to find over here and are rediculously expensive. $200 for the 57s isn't going to break me. After trying the Sheptone's (and taking a big loss on the re-sell) I'm a bit hesitant to experiment.

That being said, anybody tried the 57 plus in the bridge? I'm happy with the 57 but am curious of the difference.

You can order them at MAX Guitar from the haque( that is in holland,www.maxguitarstore.com
That is were i bought them. They are 295 euro and they ship worldwide.
I bought my marshall also there.Robbert is a nice guy and the service is topnotch.
Bare knuckle (www.bare knuckle pickups.co.uk/. gives a lifetime garanti and if you do not likethem you can get your
money back or take another model or they make the sound you are looking for and
create a new pick-up. Anyway they stand behind there products.
There are alot of videoclips at www.youtube.com to get a idea.I also know robbert got
them in his les paul also. There are two versions: alnicoII and IV. Me and robbert got IV which
suits a les paul best.
My guitar with these pups and a graphtech nut( the plastic one they put on is a disgrace) and
tone pros kluson locking tuners is a dream now.
I am keeping mine forever .....it is not a hype.
