Marshall YJM-100 with build in DOD 250!!

Postby Vinny » 10 Jan 2011, 14:35

From what i heard and read on the net, the new YJM will have the famous DOD 250 overdrive circuitry build in! That makes the list of the features more and more attractive!
I'm starting to think that this amp will just wipe the "ugly" looking AFD right from the floor!!!
I'm so curious to know what Surf will find out about this at NAMM!!!

Will find out what I can. I know Yngwie is scheduled to perform around 3:30 Saturday so will be checking that out. At this point I think the built in DOD250 is a rumour, the press release makes no mention of it although it does make reference to a footswitchable boost. If they did include it I hope it sounds like the old grey ones and not the yellow ones.

Honestly if I were possible to request a custom Marshall this would be it. A 1959 with dream options.

I also hope it would be the grey ones! It makes sence in a way...Malmsteen uses DOD 250 if I'm not wrong...so why would Marshall put a regular boost in the YJM???
If I would have to request a custom Marshall it would surely be like this one! I was already starting to dream of a 2012 anniversarry in this post :

So for me the YJM is very close...and more realistic!
Again, I'm deffenitly NOT a Malmsteen fan, in fact I get a headache from his music...but I would like to be on the run for this amp! And from the pics that are already released...there is NO ugly signature sign on it like the AFD or the KK...

If Yngwir wanted it to reproduce his tone straight in it should be a DOD 250 that is the boost. Gain and volume is the right controls for it anyway.

Would it make sense for Marshall to have to pay Digitech to use their circuit? My reckoning is that it will be a Marshall boost so that they were able to keep everything in house.

All I know is I want one! And I HATE signature stuff.

Can the boost be the fourth valve? Sill it works like an incorporated stomp box, but what does has been integrated in to the circuitry at the optimum location for optimum effect mean. And the volume determins how much of that effect you want. Sounds like a distortion box maybe with a valve in it. And you can´t use it without the noise gate.

This looks like a killer amp! It's a Plexi, it looks like a classic (from the front)with built in Variac attenuation down to bedroom levels, boost, and it biases itself! What's not to make this an EVH signature amp?? Wonder how it will sound with "78" style humbuckers!?

The noise gate is seperate from the boost section. Each have their own selection switch.

The boost is not the fourth tube, it is based on Yngwies signature pedal and not the DOD250. Trust me it sounds brutal.

Couple other things, the analog noise gate works great as Chris was able still to get great harmonic feedback from sustained notes even with the threshhold at 70%. Also the end user can use any power tube OR combintion of tubes they want. Asked about only 2300 units like the AFD and this has not been determined yet.

From what I seen it is seprate controls but the gate automatically engages when the boost is engaged. Personally I think the boost is something I wouldn't use, plenty of killer 1959 gain even without it. And yes this amp wide open is as loud as any 100 watt plexi.

That is good enough for me!

I admit, the "back features" are much less important to me. If it has "Plexi" awesomeness, and the power scaling deal for small gigs, I'm real good! :yea
