Jimmy Page goes Rap

Postby surfnorthwest » 19 Nov 2013, 08:32

Fricken end of the world.

Guitar icon Jimmy Page recently unveiled a mash-up of classic Led Zeppelin tune "Ramble On" and late rapper Notorious B.I.G.'s "Hypnotize" track. Titled "Rambalize," the song mixes Notorious' rapping vocals and Jimmy's acoustic guitar part, as well as a few samples of Robert Plant's vocal lines. Make sure to check out the tune below.

God knows, and I'm not even anti rap as such, if it's done well and original - ie it's not just sampling the shit out if classic tunes and I like the sound of it it might go on my iPod but that was disturbing...

My bet...

This is a mash up, nothing to do w/ Page. Otherwise it would be on Jimmy's soundcloud, not this other guy's...

I recently did a mix of Ramble on from the original tapes...

I didn't think it was that bad, but it's kind of beneath Page to do this. I think it's better than him playing the Kashmir guitar riff for P. Diddy to rap over for the Godzilla movie theme, though. That track sucked--not surprising since P. Diddy is a terrible rapper.

I think Biggie was/is awesome, which probably sets me apart from many in the Road House. Strangely enough, though, the original Hypnotize track drives me crazy. The bass line is in E and the female backing singers sing/rap in E flat. I could never figure out whether it was intentional dissonance or just terrible execution.
Happiness is playing a Gibson guitar through a Marshall amplifier.

Interesting...

When you look at his soundcloud, it doesn't come up.

https://soundcloud.com/jimmypage

I see it reported around, but nobody seems to say the source. (if Jimmy actually did it, or someone else)

Thanks for the link.

Is nothing sacred? HORRIBLE - why would Page do this indeed.

It proves that everyone is fallible.

BTW: I looked a little into this & it most likely is not Jimmy's work. The mashup was posted on youtube 2 years ago by some guy. The zepheads, here:

http://www.royal-orleans.com/phpBB/view ... =3&t=43083

attribute it to a screwup by Page's site manager...

I wouldn't be surprised if Page did do it, after all he was considering reforming and touring Zeppelin with a replacement singer. Maybe he is having money issues in his later years like John Entwistle; Pete Townshend has said numerous times that several of the Who reunion tours was to get cash for John.

I get the sense that Page is trying hard to be relevant again. His surviving bandmates are doing very well in modern music (Plant won grammies with Allison Krauss, and JPJ has a very successful project with Them Crooked Vultures), but it doesn't seem Page has really done anything noteworthy in the last few decades that went beyond his Zeppelin music, other than perhaps the project with the Black Crowes. Even the movie It Might Get Loud focused on his Zeppelin legacy, nothing really new there. I didn't count The Firm as that was in the eighties, a long time ago.

It's hard to know what's going on in that cooked brain of his. I would think that his reputation would
be more valuable than selling himself out to promote absolute gutter trash. He'd have to be in a pretty bad space to
crap all over a song like " Ramble on".

This almost as bad as making an appearance on Letterman.... :barf
