VM & Fender Twin in stereo!

Postby slowpokerhino » 20 Dec 2009, 14:51

Here's the rough mix versions of the 2 songs we got done in our marathon session yesterday. Yes, I know, we really need a singer. :roll

Is that some of the stuff you recorded this weekend? The tone is very smooth no harshness at all, the VM gives the Fender a little darker grit. Was the recording natrual or was any eq processed in already.

Thanks guys, really appreciated!

No EQing that I'm aware of. Just well placed SM57s directly into the board.
We tried really hard to keep it simple. The first track is just me and Greg plaing the rhythm on our strats and then Greg overdubbed the solos with his Les Paul. The rhythm on the second song is 2 strats and the acoustic w/ my Les Paul in the heavier part. Again, solo was overdubbed with a Les Paul.

Thanks for the compliment on Gregs sound and playing. He's an amazing guitarist and just a great guy in general. His setup is so simple. Just Strat or Les Paul into a 1966 Fender Bassman with a homemade 2x12 cab. The only effect he uses is a slight amount of Boss delay.

It's funny you said that Surf. When we were working on overdubs Jamie asked me which amp I preferred since we really didn't need to do the stereo thing just for overdubs. I said that I didn't know and to let me hear how each one was sounding through the board and I'd let him know. He first turned one on, then went to the other and then without missing a beat said "both it is". They really do compliment each other very well.
